Guardian’s Allowance is payable if you qualify for Child Benefit for a child who you are bringing up because his or her parents have died. In some cases you can still receive Guardian’s Allowance if there is one surviving parent.
Do you get paid for being a special guardian?
Important: The special guardianship allowance rates are paid on top of any claim for Child Benefit that you may already be receiving. The payment is not taxable (e.g. it is one of the non-means tested welfare supplements).

What to give a child to a long-term Guardian?
Give the long-term guardian: a certified or original copy of the order. Keep the original order on the child’s file the name and contact details of the CSO with case responsibility for the child information and contact details for the Foster and Kinship Carer Support line. Give either the child or long-term guardian: the child’s Medicare card.
