DuoDERM® Hydrocolloid is an occlusive gel dressing that helps maintain a moist wound bed. According to the ConvaTec website (the maker of DuoDERM®), “On contact with wound exudate, the hydrocolloid matrix forms a cohesive gel which supports moist wound healing.”.

DuoDerm dressings are impermeable to water vapor, oxygen and bacteria. One of the reasons DuoDerm dressings are so popular is because they will not stick to the wound bed itself and can be removed without tearing the granulation tissue underneath.
How long can a duoderm dressing be used on a wound?
A DuoDERM dressing can be used on all types of bedsores, including stage 1, 2, 3, and 4. A DuoDERM dressing can be used on a wound for several days. However, the exact time period during which a DuoDERM dressing will be effective will depend largely on the moisture that is present within the wound.

How do you apply duoderm dressing?
Cut the DuoDERM approximately 1/2 to 1 inch beyond the wound’s margin. After peeling off the adhesive backing, apply the sticky side of the dressing to the wound. Tape may be used around the edges of the dressing to aid in keeping the it in place.
