The real focal length of the JUPITER-8 / 8M series lenses is about 52,5 mm, therefore the new version in its designation has the parameters ‘2/53’, similar to the ‘1.8 / 53’ HELIOS-103 1.8 / 53. JUPITER-8M 2/53 refers to one of the most recent modifications of this lens.
Is it a Jupiter-8M or a jupitre-8?
He had some interesting things to tell me about my Jupiter-8M. If you look at the front of my Jupiter-8 you will see it’s actually a Jupiter-8M. As it turns out, the Jupiter-8M is specifically one of the Contax mount versions. Not only this but according to Brian the optical formula is actually slightly different.
What Mount did the KMZ Jupiter-8 come in?
It was made in Contax and M39 mounts, both for rangefinder cameras . KMZ originally made the Jupiter-8 for Arsenal ‘s Kiev (a copy of the Contax ); it later produced a version in M39 mount for its Zorki rangefinder camera series. It first appeared on the Zorki 3 in 1953, and later was the standard lens on the Zorki 3S.
Is the Jupiter-8M a good mount for Sonnar?
After I posted the last instalment of this little journey to find my perfect classic Sonnar, I went straight out and shot a few photos with my Contax mount Jupiter-8M. My hopes for it being good were far exceeded, it turned out to produce quite fantastic results.
