Is an F-1 student an alien authorized to work?
Foreign students in F-1 nonimmigrant status may work on campus without the approval of a designated school official (DSO) or USCIS. To complete Form I-9, these students may present a combination of their unexpired foreign passport and Form I-94 indicating F-1 nonimmigrant status as an acceptable List A document.

Do you have to have F-1 status to work part time?
You do not need to have had F-1 status for the one full academic year; you can satisfy the “one full academic year” requirement even if you had another nonimmigrant status during that time. If you are authorized to participate in pre-completion OPT, you may work part time (20 hours or less per week) while school is in session.
Can a F-1 student work for a construction company?
For example, an F-1 student cannot work for a construction company, even if the job site is on the campus. However, an F-1 student may work for a contractually affiliated company such as a school bookstore, because it provides services to students.
