Retirement Pay Active duty military members can retire after 20 years of active duty service. In exchange, they receive retirement pay for life. How much retirement pay a member receives is based on years of service and rank.
Is military retirement still 20 years?
Active component personnel are eligible for retirement (i.e., vested) after completing 20 years of service (YOS). Reserve personnel are eligible after 20 years of creditable service based on a points system, but do not typically begin to draw retirement pay until age 60.
Can you retire from the Navy after 15 years?
From time to time, the military offers servicemembers an option for early retirement through the Temporary Early Retirement Authority, or TERA. This program allows members to retire with a minimum of 15 years of active duty service instead of the traditional 20 years of service.
How many years do you need to retire as an officer?
