- Be at least 17 years old and not have passed their 22 birthday by July 1 of the year they enter the Preparatory School.
- Be eligible to be a U.S. citizen.

- Meet specific medical standards for a commission in the Air Force.

Can a dependent get an Air Force ID card?
Dependents that are between 21-26 (21-23 that are not full-time students) can be enrolled in the TRICARE Young Adult Program. Once the sponsor has enrolled the member in TRICARE an ID card can be issued granting base access for medical care only. The dependent will be required to bring two valid forms of ID.
Is there a limit to adoption at the Air Force Academy?
For adopted children, the adoption proceedings must have begun before their 15th birthday. There is no limit to nominations, but appointments authorized in this category are limited to 65 cadets at the Academy at one time.
